Updated: Aug 1, 2020

Ahi Poke is a raw tuna salad that is the most popular appetizer in any Hawaiian social gathering. Poke means to cut or chop in sections in Hawaiian. Hence, Ahi Poke is essentially a chopped tuna salad tossed in flavorful Poke seasonings. It is simple and easy to make and healthy, too!

Prep time: 5 mins. Cooking time: 10 min. Total time: 15 mins. Servings: 2

Ingredients:

· 250 g sushi-grade Ahi tuna loin, cut into ½ inch cubes

· 1 large sweet maui onion, finely diced

· 2 stalks green onion, chopped thinly

· 2 garlic pods, minced

· 1 tsp. freshly grated ginger

· 1 tsp. sesame oil

· 2 tbsp. soy sauce

· 1 tbsp. sesame seeds, toasted

· ½ tsp. Kosher salt

· ½ tsp. Sriracha sauce

· 1 tsp. honey

· 1 tsp. red chilli flakes

· 1 orange

Method:

· In a large mixing bowl, add ice cubes. Place another bowl over it and add the Ahi tuna cubes. The ice beneath will ensure the tuna remains fresh all the time.

· To the Ahi tuna, add Maui onion, green onion, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, honey, salt, Sriracha sauce and chilli flakes. Mix thoroughly.

· Now take the orange and grate the peel to add some orange zest to the salad.

· Squeeze about 1 tbsp. orange juice over the Ahi Poke and give it a nice stir.

And just like that, delicious Ahi Poke is ready! Inhale deeply and take in all the flavors of this unique Hawaiian dish. The zesty orange gives it a delicious freshness. Eat it as a salad or with steamed rice! It tastes great any way!
