Natural Foods to Boost Sperm Quality and Quantity

Infertility is one of the fastest growing cause of marital discords and divorces worldwide! Today, the problem of infertility affects one in every six couples. And one in every three infertility cases is attributed to male infertility alone!

Male infertility can be any of the wide array of issues like low libido, erectile dysfunction, low or no sperm count, sperm immobility, low testosterone, etc. Many men fail to recognize the cause of infertility as low sperm count or volume since everything else seems normal! To improve sperm count, a good diet is of utmost significance.

Here is a list of common food items that can help boost sperm count, volume and quality:

1. Oysters

Apart from being a powerful aphrodisiac, oysters contain the much-required zinc that facilitates sperm production and increases semen volume.

2. Garlic

Allicin found in garlic increases blood flow to the testis in man and prevents sperm damage. Selenium improves sperm motility and helps produce healthy sperms.

3. · Foods with Vitamin A

Lack of vitamin A affects sperm motility and their ability to bind to the egg in females. Vitamin A rich foods like broccoli, carrots, red bell peppers, etc. improves the sperms’ swimming abilities!

4. · Asparagus

The high amount of vitamin C in asparagus protects the sperms from damage by free radicals in the testis. It also ensures production of ample healthy sperms that are good swimmers! And this means more chances of conception!

5. Ginseng

Ginseng is a potent root that has been used in traditional Chinese medicines since ancient times to treat male impotency. A natural treatment for erectile dysfunction, ginseng increases sperm volume by boosting sperm production and improving sperm quality

6. · Bananas

Bananas contain an enzyme called ‘bromelain’ that regulates the sex hormones in men. Moreover, bananas are loaded with vitamins A, C and B1 that are essential for healthy sperm production and motility.

7. · Leafy Green Vegetables

Low levels of folic acid in the body leads to production of malformed sperms that are unable to reach the female eggs and fertilize it. In the event that an egg gets fertilized by defective sperm, it might lead to birth defects. Hence, it is imperative for men to eat more leafy vegetables like spinach that are rich in folate, to produce healthy, well-formed, powerful sperms.

8. Pomegranates

This superfruit is not only delicious but also has the ability to improve semen quality and increase sperm count. It is loaded with antioxidants that protect the sperms from oxidative damage by free radicals. Regular consumption is proven to boost potency.

9. Walnuts

Omega-3 fatty acids in walnuts increase sperm volume and production while arginine improves blood flow, thereby improving libido. Moreover, daily consumption can improve sperm morphology and motility.

10. Goji berries

High temperature in the scrotum hampers sperm production and volume and kills healthy sperms! Goji berries optimize the temperature of the scrotum, enabling the testis to produce healthy sperms and increase semen volume.

Although not a comprehensive list, these foods are a great start to boost the quality and quantity of sperms in men. Apart from these, a balanced diet, regular exercises, and a healthy lifestyle free of stress are very essential to produce healthy sperms that are capable of fertilizing an egg.
